William “Bill” Joseph Melhorn

William “Bill” Joseph Melhorn, age 89, of Highspire, and formerly of Carlisle, passed away at the home of his niece and caregiver, Elaine M. Smee, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Bill was born on Monday, June 25, 1928 in Cresson to the late Roy Raymond Melhorn, Sr. and Anna P. (Erickson) Melhorn. Bill was the widower of Dorothy “Dottie” M. (Wallace) Melhorn, whom he married on June 24, 1950, and who died on April 8, 2009. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill is preceded in death by his three sisters: Leona Kruger, Rita Clouser, Viola Toth; and his two brothers: Floyd Melhorn and Roy Melhorn, Jr.
Bill’s survivors include his sister, Evelyn Merrill of Arizona; his brother, Melvin Melhorn of Camp Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Kinney Service Corporation in Camp Hill after many years of employment. Bill was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Enola. He loved playing bingo and trying his luck at the casino. Bill also enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, pinochle, and poker.
All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his memorial service, where full military honors will be presented, on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 55 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003; with Reverend Ted Keating officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
