Dr. William "Bill" Harold Beisel, Jr.

Dr. William “Bill” Harold Beisel, Jr., 89, of Hanover , and formerly of Mechanicsburg, Akron, OH, York and Mansfield , died while surrounded by his loving wife and family on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, after a long illness. He was born in Watsontown, on January 29, 1923, son of the late William Harold Beisel and Sylvia Viola (Yordy) Beisel. Bill was the husband of Barbara Ann (Weaver) Beisel whom he married on June 17, 1950.
Bill earned his Masters and Doctoral degrees from Penn State University . His bachelor degree is from W est Chester University . He was a 1941 graduate of Watsontown High School . A World War II Veteran , Bill served in the US Army, Battery A, 365 th Field Artillery Battalion – the only unit in the war to see combat action in both Europe and Japan.
Bill was a kind and gentle man of great faith and strong character. Bill loved his family more than anything. He was a gifted educator, working as a teacher, principal, professor, dean and interim President (of Mansfield University ). He will be greatly missed by his family.
Bill’s survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Weaver Beisel; his three children, Dr. William H. Beisel, III and his wife Cheryl of Stow, OH, Dr. Raymond W. Beisel and his wife Deborah of Clymer, Dr. Margaret B. Penno and her husband Pete of York; his nine grandchildren, Kelly, Dan, Robin, Jackie, Jacob, Georgia, Leland, Colin, Christopher; his two great grandchildren, Mya, Penny; his brother, James Beisel and his wife Grace of Bailey, CO; and a special nephew, Jim Metcalfe and his wife Christine of Mechanicsburg. Among those preceding Bill in death are his son, James “Jimmy” Phillips Beisel who died in 1955.
All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his visitation on Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 9:30 until time of memorial service at 10:00 at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist , 140 North Beaver Street, York, PA 17403, with The Reverend Canon David Lovelace officiating. Bill’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church immediately following the memorial service. Interment will follow the reception in Mechanicsburg Cemetery , where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .
The family suggests memorial contributions to his church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
