William “Bill” S. Emery
A True Storyteller -
William “Bill” S. Emery, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Norristown, was embraced by his Lord in Heaven on Sunday, March 3, 2019. Bill was born on Tuesday, April 6, 1926 in Bryant Pond, ME to the late Howard Oliver Emery and Grace Ellen (Noyes) Emery. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his four brothers: George Emery, Howard Emery, Hazen Emery, Donald Emery; and his two sisters: Adelaide Gerrish, Florence Luce.
Bill’s survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Vera (Cemodanovs) Emery; his four sons: Robert Emery and his wife, Dorothy, of Denver, CO, David Emery and his wife, Laurie, of Whitsett, NC, Paul Emery and his wife, Georgi, of Oxford, PA, Michael “Mike” Emery of Noblesville, IN; his eight grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Portland High School as part of the class of 1943 and from the University of Maine in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He retired from the U.S. Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, after five years of service working as an engineer. Bill proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, where he met his wife while stationed in Germany. He enjoyed reading, especially spy and war novels. Bill also liked playing card games and putting jigsaw puzzles together with Vera. The couple loved and was very proud of the home they made for themselves, where they were able to spend many years with one another. Bill enjoyed traveling all over the country alongside his wife and journaling about his experiences each day. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and how he loved to tell stories that always included descriptive and real details.
All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his viewing on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 and graveside service with military honors at 12:00 p.m. at Rolling Green Cemetery’s Chapel in Camp Hill; with Chaplain Edward Rabenstein officiating.
