William “Bill” Curtis Moats

William “Bill” Curtis Moats, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Camp Hill, died at Cumberland Crossings on Monday, November 30, 2015. Bill was born on Wednesday, October 21, 1931 in Northampton, PA to the late William Joseph Moats and Beatrice May (Snyder) Moats. Bill was the widower of Sonia “Sonny” Ruthele (Wilson) Moats, whom he married on May 18, 1955, and who died on September 19, 2014.
Bill’s survivors include his son, Curtis W. Moats, and his wife, Anita, of Mechanicsburg; and his three grandchildren: Anthony, Rachel, and Olivia.
Bill was proud to be a career U.S. Air Force Veteran who retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service. His tours included a posting in Yokota, Japan, as part of the 56 th Strategic Recon Squadron during the Korean War, and a posting in Anchorage, Alaska, at Elmendorf Air Force Base when Alaska became a state on January 3, 1959. Bill loved “his” Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bomber which was extensively used during the Korean War. Both Bill and his late wife, Sonny, who was also a veteran, loved to travel. They also loved bowling and spent countless happy hours at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg. Reading, gardening, and cleaning, washing and waxing his cars were some of Bill’s favorite pastimes, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who he absolutely adored.
All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, December 14, 2015, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:15 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Virginia Cover officiating. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where full military honors will be presented. Honored to be urn bearer is Bill’s son, Curtis Moats.
