Winfred “Win” Elson Weldy, 89, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home and with his loving wife by his side on Saturday, March 9, 2013.  He was born in Milford, IN, on Saturday, October 20, 1923, son of the late Allen X. Weldy and Nina (Roose) Weldy.  Win was the husband of Louise Eileen (Holl) Weldy whom he married on June 13, 1948.

Win’s survivors include his loving wife of almost 65 years, Louise Eileen (Holl) Weldy; his two daughters, Karen W. Karkuff and her husband Gary of Mechanicsburg, Linda W. Greene and her husband David of NC; his five grandchildren, Matthew Greene and his wife Christine of KY, Julie Greene of NC, Jenna Karkuff of Philadelphia, Stefan Karkuff of NY, Eva Karkuff of Mechanicsburg; his great-grandson, Jacob Greene of KY; his brother, Edgar Weldy of IN; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Win in death are his brother, Dr. Gilbert Weldy.

Win graduated from Elkhart High School in Elkhart, IN, as part of the class of 1941, from Manchester University in 1947 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, and from Purdue University in 1949 with a Master’s Degree in Chemistry.  He retired from Hercules, Inc. in Wilmington, DE, after 32 years of service working as a Research Chemist specializing in polymers.  Win served in the US Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946, as an Ensign in the Panama Canal Zone.  He was a charter member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE, where he served as a trustee and elder and sang tenor in the choir.  In 2004, Win and his wife moved to Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, and became members of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church .

Win had many interests, which included opera, classical music, travel and fitness.  He loved all sports, in particular tennis, golf and squash racquets.  He was a member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning where he taught Opera Appreciation.  Win volunteered at OperaDelaware as a supernumerary and set constructor.  He was a member of Hercules Country Club where he served on the Grounds Committee.  Win was President of the Wilmington Squash Racquets Club for 15 years.  He was featured in the Wilmington News Journal and on FOX Cable for his collection of unusual sports balls.  Win served as the Marshall at LPGA McDonalds Tournaments .

All are welcome to join Win’s family at his visitation on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church , 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, with Reverend Anne Myers officiating.  Interment will follow in Silver Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .  Honored to be urn bearers are Matthew Greene and Stefan Karkuff.  Win’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the interment.
