Anthony “Tony” Salerno
A Beautiful Smile -
Anthony “Tony” Salerno, age 69, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Lancaster, passed away at Carolyn’s House in Harrisburg on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Tony was born on Wednesday, August 3, 1949 in Lancaster to Anna Maria (Fusco) Salerno and the late Alexander John Salerno.
In addition to his mother, Tony’s survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janet Sue (Donadio) Salerno; his two sons: Michael A. Salerno and his wife, Lauren, of Pasadena, CA, Marc A. Salerno and his son, Shae, of Carlisle; and his two sisters: Rose Marie Salerno and her husband, Michael Hutchinson, of Campbell, CA, Linda Conley and her husband, Larry, of Ocean Pines, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School as part of the class of 1967, from LaSalle University, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1971 with a degree in European History, and graduated from the University of Virginia with a Masters and Ph.D. in British and Early American History in 1977. He began his career with Woolworth Corporation/Kinney Shoe Corporation in Mechanicsburg in 1979 as Manager of Office Automation and Microcomputer Services. He then worked as IT Manager for the Book of the Month Club and later as a Business Systems Analyst for Keystone Health Plan. Tony retired from the PA Office of Administration in Harrisburg as JNET Project Manager Lead. During his retirement, Tony consulted for the PA Department of Corrections as a Project Manager Consultant and IT Manager. He was an ardent fan of Philadelphia athletic teams, both professional and collegiate. He enjoyed watching movies in the theater and at his home. He loved to travel for work and pleasure. Tony was smart, organized, hard-working and unbelievably reliable. His family and coworkers knew that they could always count on him to get the job done. The people that knew him will remember his beautiful smile and his “down to earth” nature. His family came before all else and his sons will remember him fondly.
