Dennis “Denny” Patrick Cooney
A Man of Deep Faith -
Dennis “Denny” Patrick Cooney, age 68, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Catonsville, MD, passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, after spending a wonderful day with his entire family on Christmas. Denny was born on Thursday, August 17, 1950 in Manhattan, NY to Lois Adelaide (Richardson) Cooney and the late Edward Joseph Cooney, Sr. In addition to his father, Denny is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Joseph Cooney, Jr.
Denny’s survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jane Thomasine (Jackson) Cooney; his four children: Jason Cooney of Lutherville-Timonium, MD, David Cooney and his wife, Felicia, of Abingdon, MD, Anna Sharp and her husband, Ira, of Enola, Jessica Cooney of Mechanicsburg; his six grandchildren: Alana Cooney, Lilliana “Lilli” Sharp, Sammy Sharp, Gabe Sharp, Katelyn Cooney and J.J. Sharp; his six siblings: Cathy Phipps, Bob Cooney, Brian Cooney, Jerry Cooney, Kevin Cooney and Greg Cooney; and several nieces and nephews.
Denny graduated from Catonsville High School as part of the class of 1968 and attended Catonsville Community College. He met Jane, the love of his life and future wife, in the fifth grade while attending St. Mark School in Catonsville. Denny worked as a budget analyst for the Department of Public Welfare at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a very protective and loving husband and father. His great sense of humor earned him the title of the “funny uncle”.
Perhaps what defined Denny more than anything else was his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. His personal journey of faith saw him move from being agnostic to salvation and through the medical treatments for Hodgkin’s Disease and almost unbelievable tumors to the healing power found only in Jesus Christ. Denny shared his amazing story of faith and God’s Healing on the 700 Club, Heart to Heart, in numerous churches and through his beautiful original music. He played his guitar and sang his songs and in doing so he deeply impacted the lives of countless people. The full impact of Denny’s story and his music can never be accurately measured but one thing is sure; his faith and memory will live on in those he touched.
