Winifred Joan (Cassel) Pepper, 85, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at Church of God Home, Carlisle on Monday, January 21, 2013.  She was born in Mechanicsburg, on Tuesday, October 11, 1927, daughter of the late Willard F. Cassel and Kathryn Baker.  Winifred was the widow of Albert Middleton Pepper whom she married on November 9, 1947, and who passed away May 18, 1991.

Winifred graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1946. She was a member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg, where she served in the choir. Winifred was also a member of the Ecumenical Choir. She loved to read the Bible and sing hymns. Winifred enjoyed family camping trips, flowers, and she appreciated eating good food.

Winifred’s survivors include her loving children, Barbara Stokes and her husband Harry of Landisburg, Carol Mercer and her husband John of North Wales, Thomas Pepper and his wife Lisa of Mechanicsburg, Anthony Pepper and his wife Chris of Highspire; grandchildren, Chrissy Casella and her husband Colin, Amanda Werts and her husband Will, Julie Pepper, Jerrie Mercer; great-granddaughter, Lydia Werts; a brother Donald Cassel and his wife Nancy of Mechanicsburg;  a sister Virginia Calabrese of Mechanicsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Winifred in death are two brothers, Willard “Bill”Cassel and Ken Cassel.

All are welcome to join Winifred’s family at visitation on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Bradley V. Moore officiating.  Cremation and burial in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be private and at the family’s convenience. Winifred’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Church of God Home, Benevolent Fund , 801 North Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or First Church of God , 28 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
